Wreath Sales Tips

Ken Walerius

Wear your Class A uniforms when you sell.

Start Early – If you are the first Scout to knock on someone’s door you will have a good chance to make a sale.   Also many people buy from more that one Scout.

Keep your customer lists – sell to last years customers first and if they ask let them know what they bought last year.   Tigers should start a customer list.

Take a few self addressed stamped envelopes with you, some people will buy, but they won’t have their checkbook.  Leave the envelope for them to mail you the check

This will be easier than going back to collect.

Fall break is from Oct 12-16.  If your employer gives permission, take your son to work.  Sit him in the lunchroom with his wreath information., bring 2 dozen donuts, and send an email to everyone in the office saying free donuts to the first 24 customers.

Sell at before, during and at halftime of Soccer games. St Johns, BAC, PLAY.  Lots of parents and grandparents attend these games.

Christmas has a very high approval rating and so does Scouts.

The Economy is bad, but the State Fair had record attendance and record spending, so people still have money and will still celebrate Christmas.

If you own businesses, consider getting your customers or potential customers a Centerpiece.  This is a unique Christmas gift and you will be ahead of the competition by delivering it before Thanksgiving.

Give out Thank You notes with your contact information so the customer knows when they will be delivered and who to call if there is a problem.

This is our only fundraiser and the money is used to fund the Pack program and you will also earn Scout Credit which can be used for any Pack Activity

There is a mistake on the summary sheet for the swags. They are only worth 1 unit, not 2. Just to recap the units for each piece sold. 25" wreath (1 unit) 30" wreath (1 unit) 36" wreath (2 units) 48” wreath (3 units)  60"wreath (4 units) Door swags (1 unit) 25ft gar. (2 units) 50 ft garland (3 units) 100 ft garland (4  units) Bow (0) Candy cane (2 units), Cross (2 units) Centerpiece (2 units)

Money is Due Oct 20th at the Pack Meeting.  Checks only, NO CASH.  Keep the cash from your sales and write a check to Pack 338.

Happy Selling!

Every Scout Deserves a Trained Leader!

Training shows new leaders how to do their jobs and allows for an interchange of ideas with more experienced leaders. Every Cub Scout deserves qualified, trained leaders who will provide the best program possible, the way it is intended. Trained leaders ensure that the goals of Cub Scouting are met. The leadership training program of the Boy Scouts of America provides this information and helps leaders become confident in carrying out their responsibilities.

Online Training: The BSA Online Learning Center provides a variety of materials, from quick references to complete courses, all designed to help our members improve leadership skills and deliver a quality program. Go to http://olc.scouting.org/ - this will take you to the BSA website - choose the Online Learning Center from the sidebar:

  • This Is Scouting (replaces New Leader Essentials)
  • Cub Scout Fast Start
  • Safe Swim Defense and Safety afloat
  • Youth Protection

My Three Favorite Games at Polar Cubs

Webelos 2 Scout

Last week pack 338 went on a trip to Polar Cub Camp in Cannon Falls, MN. They played broom ball against each other. The winners were the kids with the yellow sticks. The red team walked away thinking of how they lost the game. After the fierce game of broom ball they moved on to a game called Snowballs. The game was really competitive and it was also extremely fun.

The very last game or activity was riding down the hill on inner-tubes. The most tiring part was climbing back up the hill to go on again. Finally we gather up for a conversation then left to go home.
