Pack Graduation & Egg Drop - Sun May 16th - 1:00 P.M. in the Old Gym at St. John's
Pack Graduation is the time of year when you officially become the next rank in cub scouts. You will receive your next book and neckerchief as well as celebrate with the entire pack on an excellent year with great accomplishments and loads of fun.
The Egg Drop is an event where Cub Scouts attempt to create a device that can keep a raw chicken egg intact when dropped from the sky. Duck, Goose or Ostrich eggs may also be used.
The most common method is to put the egg in a container surrounded by shock absorbing material that will protect the egg when it is dropped. Commonly used materials are pudding, jello peanut butter, sand, chocolate, styrofoam, and cotton. Another approach is a helicopter shaped device that attempts to slow the device by converting falling energy into rotational energy, thus dissipating the energy before the device hits.
A more challenging technique is a cone shape with a paper cup inside and cotton surrounding the egg. One can simply use one sheet of paper to save the egg by shaping it into a cone and when it drops, the nose of the cone will scrunch (absorbing the crash) and saving the egg. This technique also needs to have surrounding protectors around the paper so that when it falls sideways, the egg will be intact. BE CREATIVE!
